Lack of rain = no maize
“Maize doesn’t do well when there is lack of rain”

Farmer Martin Masibili from Webuye:
The weather has really changed – especially the rain patterns. Rains are unpredictable. I used to plant maize, but now I can’t. I have now changed from maize to soya beans, which is a short crop. But it is not as durable as maize; it often gets eaten up by insects. If I had irrigation systems I could plant maize. We have the rivers, but we lack the materials to create the systems. Only very few people can afford it.
