Why should I care?
It’s a fact that climate changes are taking place in the world. We might not see it in Denmark yet, but millions of people are right now suffering from climate change. Climate changes are man made. The problem is caused by the industrialized countries while the people suffering live in other parts of the world.
To be able to adjust to climate changes, the global south needs money for adaptation. With an adaption fund the proposed projects could be capacity building, improving water storage facilities, improving flood defences, supporting vulnerable famers in diversifying their crops. Denmark has this money and due to its amount of greenhouse gas emissions Denmark owe this money to the countries in urgent need of adaptation. Denmark has a climate debt – Denmark take the lead!
6 reasons to care:
- Floods and droughts
Big areas in the world are suffering from climate changes: floods and droughts are destroying harvests and livelihoods. - Time is running out!
If no action is taken now – it will be too late. - Polluter pays
Each Dane emits 10 tons of CO2 annually. The people suffering from climate change in average emits less that 0,2 ton per person/year. - The climate dosn’t have any borders.
There is no alternative to making a global deal together. - We can afford it
Denmark has the means to pay off the climate debt and therefore the responsibillity. - Denmark’s promise
It is time for Denmark to live up to its promises and take the lead in combatting the climate changes.
